MSU's Garner Chosen in Amateur Draft

Michigan State junior pitcher David Garner was chosen in the 7th round Friday of the amateur baseball draft by the Chicago Cubs. The Niles, Michigan native has until July 12th to decide whether to return to school for his senior year or sign and turn pro. He was the 129th pick overall and is projected as a relief pitcher.
Garner is the highest chosen Spartan in the draft since outfielder Bob Malek went in the fourth round in 2002. In addition, incoming MSU catcher Josh Heim of Amherst, New York went in the fourth round to the Baltimore Orioles.
