EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State baseball team will take on the Lansing Lugnuts in the sixth annual Crosstown Showdown presented by Auto Owners Insurance on Thursday, April 5 at 7:05 p.m. at Cooley Law School Stadium in Downtown Lansing.
All tickets are priced at $10 and can be purchased at www.msuspartans.com and www.lansinglugnuts.com, as well as at the stadium gate.
"It's going to be a fun night for everybody," said MSU head coach Jake Boss. "It's a time for us to relax and play the game the right way, and have a little bit of fun while doing it. Hopefully we can put on a good show for the fans that will be there. (Lansing General Manager) Pat Day and the Lugnuts do a great job of promoting it; they're a first-class organization. This game is really a thrill for our guys to play in."
The exhibition game will be nine innings and the Spartans will use wooden bats.
The Crosstown Showdown has drawn record crowds, including a stadium-record 12,992 fans for the 2009 game in which the Spartans won, 12-2.
The Lugnuts hold a 3-2 series advantage in the annual event, which began in 2007. MSU won last year's contest, 2-1, and Spartan head coach Jake Boss is 2-1 against the Lugnuts.
The Lansing Lugnuts are a Class A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays and play in the Midwest League.
This year's game will be broadcast live on BTN, with Eric Collins and Scott Pose on the call. Radio coverage is available at 92.1 FM.
The Spartans (17-8, 2-1 Big Ten) are in the midst of a busy stretch, playing 12 games in 17 days, in addition to the Crosstown Showdown. MSU will take on Eastern Michigan Wednesday in Ypsilanti Wednesday night at 6:05 p.m. before taking on the Lugnuts. Michigan State then turns around to play a three-game, home-and-home series against Michigan this weekend. Friday's game in Ann Arbor is set for 5:35 p.m., while Saturday's game in East Lansing starts at 1:05 p.m. The series finale will begin at 3:05 p.m. in Ann Arbor and will be televised on BTN.
