The Detroit Lions will play on a new surface at Ford Field when the 2013 season begins in the fall. Field Turf Classic HD, as it is now called, is about to be installed. The original field has been used the past 11 years since the stadium opened effective with the 2002 season.
The new surface is said to be softer and more durable.
