Kay Purves, a member of the inaugural Greater Lansing Sports Hall of Fame cflass in 1976, died over the weekend in Lansing. She was 82. Purves had been ill the past few months. She was a longtime Lansing area softball icon as a player, coach and umpire. She was a part of the Lansing Laurels fastpitch team as either a coach or player from 1961 until after the 1987 season when the team folded.
Purves' 1974-75 Laurels teams are being inducted into the Lansing hall of fame at ceremonies at the Lansing Center on July 25th.
