FLINT, Mich. (AP) -- Flint's 17-year-old Olympic boxing champion has returned home, greeted by family, friends and excited fans.
WEYI-TV says gold medal-winner Claressa Shields landed at Bishop International Airport about 5:30 p.m. Monday, ahead of her expected arrival thanks to airlines that held a connecting flight so she could make it.
Mlive.com says a celebration is following at Berston Field House.
Shields was the only U.S. fighter to win a gold in the first-ever women's boxing competition at the London Olympics.
She beat Nadezda Torlopova of Russia 19-12 on Thursday for the middleweight title.
