Illinois and Michigan have won opening round games Thursday in the Big Ten men's basketball tournament in Chicago. Brandon Paul's jumper at the buzzer gave Illinois a 51-49 comeback win over Minnesota. Paul had 25 points and the Illini meet top seed Indiana in the quarter-finals on Friday.
Trey Burke had 21 points leading Michigan to an 83-66 win over Penn State. Michigan trailed 14-3 early and a mere 35-33 at halftime. Michigan next meets Wisconsin in a Friday quarter-final.
Purdue meets Nebraska and Iowa plays Northwestern in games later Thursday night.
