Famed ND Quarterback Dies

Frank Tripucka, who led Notgre Dame to a 9-0-1 record and a number two ranking in 1948, has died. He was 85. His son, former Detroit Piston Kelly Tripucka, a former Notre Dame basketball standout himself, said his father died of congestive heart failure at his home in Woodland Park, New Jersey.
The elder Tripucka had been a backup to Heisman winner John Lujack. Tripucka was the ninth pick overall by Philadelphia in 1949. Fujneral arrangements are pending. He played for five NFL teams including the Detroit Lions.
