EAST LANSING - MSU star basketball player Derrick Nix is was back in an East Lansing courtroom Thursday for his sentencing. Nix pleaded guilty in April to a single misdemeanor charge of impaired driving. On Thursday Nix was sentenced to 24 hours of community service and $853 in fines and court costs. Nix must also attend an 8 to 10 session outpatient, marijuana specific, substance abuse program, and attend a victim impact panel.

Nix was scheduled to be sentenced on Friday. Court officials who spoke to News 10 had no immediate information on why the sentencing was moved up a day.

The 21 year old Nix was arrested during a traffic stop in East Lansing April 3rd. He had initially been charged with two misdemeanors, possession of marijuana, and operating a vehicle in the presence of drugs. Those charges were dismissed in exchange for a guilty plea to impaired driving.
