Hard-slugging third baseman Miguel Cabrera will have surgery Tuesday to repair a tear in his groin that kept him from being totally effective during the playoffs.
Cabrera was bothered the last couple of months of the regular season by several injuries. During the playoffs he batted just .262 with two home runs in eleven games. Cabrera said he made the decision to play while injured so he could help the Tigers in the playoffs.
He doesn't know any details of the operation that he will undergo, adding that he just hopes that it will heal quickly. Cabrera has been with the Tigers since 2008 and was the American League MVP in 2012 and is the front runner to repeat this season.
