Miguel Cabrera went oh for 2 in Kansas City Wednesday night, but he essentially won the American League triple crown in the process. The Tigers' 3rd baseman was removed from the game midway through the 4th inning to a standing ovation from the Royals' home crowd. Cabrera finished with a .330 batting average, 44 home runs and 139 runs batted in. He is the first triple crown winner since Boston's Carl Yastrzemski in 1967. Cabrera hugged his teammates when he returned to the dugout. The Tigers open the playoffs at home Saturday at 6:07pm against the Oakland A's.
