The Chronicle of Higher Education is reporting Thursday that the Big Ten Conference is considering giving more authority to commissioner Jim Delany. He would have power to fire coaches, but Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith says it would be the recommendation to schools to fire coaches. An 18-page plan is being circulated through the Big Ten's leaders for consideration. Delany would have authority to levy additional penalties from fines to suspensions.
