Amateur Wins Michigan Open

Tom Werkmeister, a 45-year old internet salesman from Kentwood, is just the fifth amateur to win the Michigan Open golf championship in its 96-year history and the first since 1975. Werkmeister finished at 13 under par, two shots ahead of defending champion Barrett Kelpin, a 23-year old mini tour pro from Kalamazoo.
Former Michigan State varsity players Chris Mory of Haslett and Andrew Ruthkoski tied for third at ten under par. Each won $4,000. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
