Suburban Detroit will become the land of big spenders for five days in mid-September.

The 2004 Ryder Cup is the ultimate networking event for Fortune 500 companies who will wine and dine clients and partners. Also wealthy individuals will shell out lots of money to attend one of golf's biggest events.

An estimated 40,000 people a day are expected to attend the matches at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township.

Luxury hotels, caterers and airports have been preparing for months. Many area residents hope to cash in by renting out homes near the club.

PGA officials have estimated the economic impact of the event at $150 million.
