Spartan offensive tackle J'Michael Deane has been sentenced to 12-months probation and 150 hours of community service for his role in a campus fight last year.
He is the first of five current and former Michigan State University football players awaiting sentencing Friday in East Lansing District Court.
Deane had pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and battery. He also must pay $1,043 in court fines and costs, and complete an assaultive behavior program.
All five players have pleaded guilty in connection with the Nov. 22 fight in an on-campus residence hall with members of a fraternity. A total of 11 current or former players have pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the fight.
