DETROIT (AP) -- The Detroit Tigers traded pitcher Roman Colon, recently charged in a locker room scuffle with a Triple-A teammate, to the Kansas City Royals on Friday for a player to be named.
Colon was charged with felonious assault after a brawl June 12. The right-hander was fighting with a teammate when another Toledo pitcher, Jason Karnuth, tried to break it up.
Colon hit Karnuth and broke several bones in his face, according to a police report. Colon later said he had no idea he hit Karnuth.
The Tigers suspended Colon for seven days. The pitcher has spent the entire season on the disabled list while recovering from offseason neck surgery.
Colon's injury rehabilitation assignment has been transferred from Double-A Erie to Double-A Wichita in the Royals' organization.
In five outings with Erie, Colon was 2-0 with a 5.91 ERA. He also appeared in five games with Toledo and was 0-1 with a 3.60 ERA.
In 32 games with Detroit, Colon went 3-1 with a 5.37 ERA.
The player Detroit will receive is expected to be named on or before Oct. 15.
