ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Reliever Fernando Rodney has signed a two-year, $11 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels.
The 32-year-old right-hander spent his first seven major league seasons with the Detroit Tigers, including the last two years as their closer. He converted 37 of 38 save opportunities last season, pitching a career-best 75 2-3 innings.
Angels general manager Tony Reagins praises Rodney's competitiveness, saying he'll add depth to the team's bullpen. Reagins didn't specify Rodney's role, but he could compete with closer Brian Fuentes, who led the majors in saves last season.
The Angels lost free-agent reliever Darren Oliver to the Texas Rangers on Wednesday.
