Tigers Sign Santiago

The Detroit Tigers avoided arbitration with veteran infielder Ramon Santiago and signed him Wednesday to a two year $2.5 million deal. Santiago had 7 homer and 35 runs batted in last season. He is due to play a back up role but could be the starting second baseman if the job proves too much for rookie Scott Sizemore to handle in replacing the departed Placido Polanco.
