For the 3rd straight year the Diamond Classic Championship game was decided in the 7th inning. This year's hour-long frame saw 17 total runs scored. With Okemos trailing 4-2 entering the final inning, the Chieftains tied the game when Anthony Schiro belted a 2-run homer to right. Two batters later Ben Magsig followed that with a solo homer to give Okemos the lead. Magsig would also add 2 RBI's later in the 7th when his single gave Okemos a 12-4 lead.
Fowlerville made 2 quick outs in the bottom of the 7th and it looked like the game would end quickly but the Gladiators dug deep and started their rally. Walks, errors and hit-by-pitches all aided in their comeback. Fowlerville had the winning run on second base but Ben Burmeister was able to squeeze a pop-up to second and Okemos held on to win 12-11 in a wild inning of high school baseball.
Both teams will return to action this Saturday in regional play.
