CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Detroit Tigers released right-hander Jose Mesa after their 7-to-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians today.
The Tigers are expected to activate right-hander Fernando Rodney before the Tigers open a three-game series Tuesday in Texas against the Rangers.
Rodney has been sidelined since May 21st with tendinitis in his right biceps.
Detroit signed Mesa as a free agent in December.
He went 1-and-1 with a 12-point-34 earned run average with 16 appearances for the Tigers.
Detroit is his eighth club in a major league career that began 20 years ago with the Baltimore Orioles.
