Wolverines Win First Game Of NCAA Baseball Tourney

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Nate Recknagel and Doug Pickens each drove in three runs to lead Michigan to a 10-7 victory over Memphis on Friday in a first-round NCAA Tournament game at Hawkins Field.
The second-seeded Wolverines collected 13 hits and pulled away with four runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by a two-run double from winning pitcher Zach Putnam.
Michigan (40-16) will play Saturday at 8 p.m. EDT against the winner of Friday night's Austin Peay-Vanderbilt game. Third-seeded Memphis will play Friday night's loser at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Trailing 10-6, Memphis (36-26) rallied in the ninth inning with two hits and a run off Michigan reliever Michael Powers. Tigers slugger Adam Amar, who hit two earlier home runs, flied out with two runners on base to end the game.
Putnam (8-4) allowed nine hits with seven strikeouts over eight innings before giving way to Powers.
Memphis starter Scott McGregor (5-4) took the loss, lasting five innings and allowing five runs.
