Michigan State University is asking for Scholarship Seating Contributions from certain football season ticket holders.
The added cost of at least $200 per seat will be tacked on to the price of a season ticket.
It only affects certain seats and sections between the 20s in zones "A," "B," and "C." The contribution per seat ranges from $200 to $500 depending on where you sit. This is about 20 percent of the stadium seating. Season ticket holders in these sections have the option of requesting a seat change.
The contribution will be phased in between two and four years based on how long a person has been a season ticket holder. The athletic director says his department does not receive general fund dollars. Ron Mason says he doesn't believe the school will lose ticket holders, but says there may be a reshuffling of seats.
Mason says MSU can't support sports on ticket sales alone.
Forty-six percent of these 15,000 seats are non-donors.
