INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Big Ten Conference champion University of Michigan baseball team is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season -- and 20th time overall -- after receiving an at-large bid Monday (May 28) when the 64-team NCAA field was announced. The Wolverines have been assigned to the Nashville, Tenn., regional, which will be hosted by Vanderbilt and played Friday through Monday (June 1-4).

Coach Rich Maloney's Wolverines (39-16) are the No. 2 seed in the Nashville regional and will face third-seeded Memphis (36-25) on Friday, June 1 (2 p.m. CDT), in the opening game of the double-elimination event at Hawkins Field. Host Vanderbilt, the tournament's No. 1 overall seed, and Austin Peay will meet in the night game Friday (7 p.m. CDT).

The four-team, double-elimination regional schedule has two games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with an "if necessary" game scheduled for Monday.

Michigan, which won the Big Ten regular-season title with a 21-7 record, is one of three Big Ten teams in the NCAA field. League tournament winner Ohio State is the No. 3 seed in the regional hosted by Texas A&M, while at-large selection Minnesota is the No. 3 seed in the regional hosted by San Diego.

The 16 regional champions advance to the best-of-three super regionals June 8-11. The eight super regional winners advance to the College World Series, scheduled for June 15-25 in Omaha, Neb. The Wolverines have advanced to the College World Series seven times, most recently in 1984, and won national titles in 1953 and 1962.
