KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Tigers are off tomorrow, but Joel Zumaya has a doctor's appointment in New York.
The middle finger on the flame-throwing reliever's pitching hand is painfully swollen. He plans to see a hand specialist.
Zumaya hurt the finger while warming up during last night's game in Kansas City. He was placed on the disabled list after the game.
Neither Zumaya nor manager Jim Leyland knows how long he'll be out.
He's 1-and-1 with a three-point-63 earned-run average and 17 strikeouts in 17 and a-third innings this year.
Right-hander Aquilino Lopez was called up after Zumaya went on the D-L. Lopez allowed two runs in one and a-third innings in Detroit's 13-to-4 win over the Royals today.
