Detroit Lions left tackle Jeff Backus is a model of consistency for his teammates.

The six-foot-five, 309-pounder has never missed a game of football. And his work ethic provided a strong anchor on the Michigan offensive line.

Backus started 49 games for the Wolverines. He also started all 16 games in his rookie season last year.

The 24-year-old became the first Lions rookie since Luther Ellis in 1995 to start every game. He says he takes pride in playing regularly and improving his game.

The Lions' training camp is under way in Allen Park.
