The Lions wanted to trade the 2nd overall pick in Saturday's NFL draft. They weren't able to do that so they selected wideout Calvin Johnson from Georgia Tech. In the 2nd round the flurry of trades began. Detroit traded the 34th pick to Buffalo for the 43rd pick and the 74th pick in the 3rd round. Detroit used the 43rd pick on MSU QB Drew Stanton. Detroit then traded wideout Mike Williams and QB Josh McCown to the Oakland Raiders for the 105th pick in the 4th round. Detroit then traded the a 3rd and 5th round pick to the New Orleans Saints. The Lions then selected Ikaika Alma-Francis a defensive end from Hawaii with the 58th pick in the 2nd round. Detroit then dealt a 3rd and 4th round pick to Baltimore for the rights to the 62nd pick in the 2nd round. Detroit used that to select Gerald Alexander a Safety from Boise State.

The Lions will have 5 picks on day 2 of the draft. 1 pick in the 4th round, 3 in the 5th and mister irrelevant as Detroit will make the 255th and final pick of the draft.
