Phoenix Suns guard Jalen Rose plans for a fifth straight year to give five Detroit high school seniors $10,000 each to help pay for college.

"There is no question in my mind that education is the key to a successful future and I want to help the Detroit community make college a priority for its kids," Rose said in a statement Thursday. "Someday, I hope to receive a scholarship application from every senior in Detroit because this great city will only get better as more and more kids grow up and impact the community in positive ways."

At least one of the five scholarships will help a student from the former Michigan star's alma mater, Detroit Southwestern High School.

Rose and representatives of The Jalen Rose Foundation will pick the scholarship recipients based on academic achievement and goals, extracurricular and community activities along with financial need.

The deadline to apply is April 30, and the scholarship winners will be announced in May.
