The Detroit Tigers have removed outfielder Marcus Thames and catcher Matt Treanor from their roster, paving the way for both to become free agents. Thames had been with the team since 2004 and hit .252 with 13 home runs in 87 games this last season. Treanor played four games last spring, then was injured and sidelined for the remainder of the season.
