Tigers Hold Off Kansas City 6-5

Gary Sheffield picked up his first home run as a member of the Detroit Tigers today as the defending American League champs beat Kansas City 6-to-5. The Tigers also got homers from Ivan Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson off loser Gil Meche (mesh).
Making his first start since suffering an injury to his pitching elbow last May, Mike Maroth got the win, going five innings. He allowed six hits and four runs. Todd Jones pitched the ninth for his second save of the season.
