Two Michigan football players were arraigned Wednesday on assault charges after police say they attacked a fellow student in a residence hall on St. Patrick's Day.

Tight end Carson Butler, 19, and defensive back Christian Richards III, 19, each are charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of assault and battery. They were released on $5,000 personal bond and have a pre-trial hearing scheduled for March 27.

The assault occurred in a dorm room Saturday evening, Diane Brown, a spokeswoman for the Ann Arbor University’s Department of Public Safety, told The Ann Arbor News.

Brown said the student told police he did not know why he was targeted.
