LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) -- Detroit's top pick in the 2005 baseball draft is among ten prospects being sent to the Tigers' minor league system.
Outfielder Cameron Maybin is expected to begin the season at Class A Lakeland,
The 19-year-old slugger was batting .429 in 17 Grapefruit League exhibition games and wowed teammates with his combination of power and speed.
Detroit manager Jim Leyland says Maybin probably could play in the majors right now, but the talented Tigers have the luxury of bringing him along slowly.
The Tigers also optioned catcher Mike Rabelo and outfielder Brent Clevlen to Triple-A Toledo. They have 39 players left in the major league camp following the cuts.
