IN LAKELAND, THE TIGERS ARE EXCITED ABOUT THEIR BIG NAME OFF SEASON ACQUISITION:
38-year old Gary Sheffield still figures he has some pop left in his bat. The Tigers signed him as a free agent after Sheffield played in New York for the Yankees last season. Sheffield has been a friend of his former manager Jim Leyland, who wanted him to join the Tigers lineup this season.
"Just coming in today I've seen guys giving me hugs, happy to see me and things like that and that's a good feeling," Sheffield said. "It's going to work out just fine."
