Tiger Star Gives For Children's Health

Detroit Tigers third baseman Brandon Inge is donating a chunk of the lucrative contract he signed in the offseason.

Inge and his wife, Shani, are giving a $100,000 gift to the University of Michigan's Mott Children's Hospital. The money will create an activity center in the pediatric cancer infusion clinic, which is scheduled to open in 2011.

Inge says his hope is that the play center becomes associated with joy and that it gives kids and their parents a break.

The Tigers gave Inge a 24 million-dollar, four-year contract after he helped Detroit reach the World Series for the first time since 1984. He had career highs with 27 homers, 83 R-B-Is and a .463 slugging percentage last season.
