Iowa has extended football coach Kirk Ferentz' contract seven more seasons at the same $2.84 million per year salary he currently earns. Ferentz is second in Big Ten compensation to Ohio State's Jim Tressel.
The Hawkeyes have a 70-53 record in Ferentz' first ten years. His assistant coaches will get pay increases under the new plan. Ferentz had been rumored to be on his way to Kansas City to coach the NFL Chiefs recently, but Ferentz has been the subject of rumors for a variety of different openings. Iowa plays at Michigan State again next fall for the second year in a row after the Hawkeyes lost 16-13 in East Lansing last year.
