Kiara Buford scored 16 points and made three straight 3-point baskets and a breakaway layup to spark a 19-2 run, putting the Gophers ahead for good for their third straight regular season win over the Spartans.
Emily Fox was held scoreless in the first half, but added 10 points for the Gophers (15-6, 7-3 Big Ten).
Lykendra Johnson led Michigan State with 12 points, while Lauren Aitch added 10.
The Spartans built a 29-21 halftime lead when the Gophers made just 5 of 27 shots from the floor in the opening period. But Minnesota made four of their first five shots after intermission to get back in the game before their closing spurt.
Michigan State (15-7, 8-3) went scoreless in the game's final 7:30.
