Adam Walicki of Jackson is atop the leaderboard at three-under par-67 after the first round of the 92nd Michigan Amateur Championship.
The 23-year-old leads the 156-man field by one shot over Baldwin's A.J. Balulis at Belvedere Golf Club in Charlevoix.
The only other players with a sub-70 round were Eric Spencer of Bloomfield Hills, and Rob Spears of Tecumseh. Both shot 69.
The rough was at least four inches in many spots and the greens were quicker than most players expected.
The greens were mowed and rolled prior to the first round, making them much faster than in the weekend practice rounds.
Defending champion Korey Mahoney of East Lansing shot 72.
The tournament is being played at Belvedere for the first time since 1988.
