ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -- The Lions signed Stuart Schweigert to add depth at safety and on special teams.
Schweigert said Wednesday he signed a two-year contract, ending a brief stint as a substitute teacher in his hometown of Saginaw, Mich.
He started 39 games the previous three years with the Oakland Raiders, but was cut by them and the New York Giants.
The speedy Schweigert had two interceptions last year and a pair in 2005, a year after Oakland drafted him in the third round out of Purdue.
