EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- A victory over previously unbeaten Northwestern has lifted Michigan State three spots to No. 20 in this week's Associated Press football poll.
Javon Ringer rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns as the Spartans cruised to a 37-20 win over the Wildcats in Evanston, Ill., on Saturday.
Michigan State (6-1, 3-0 Big Ten) scored 17 straight points in the first quarter with the help of a pair of Northwestern turnovers. Unranked Northwestern falls to 5-1 and 1-1.
Texas jumped from fifth to first in this week's AP poll with its 45-35 win over previous No. 1 Oklahoma, now fourth.
