Putnam Signs With Cleveland

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Zach Putnam is skipping his senior season at the University of Michigan to sign with the Cleveland Indians.
The right-handed pitcher says he has agreed to a minor league deal worth about $650,000 and is expected to sign it soon. Cleveland drafted Putnam in the fifth round two months ago and if the team didn't sign him by Friday, it would've lost rights to him.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Putnam is the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year with a 9-and-0 record. He also was a .307 hitter with eleven homers and 51 RBIs in 55 games.
