-- Michael Phelps advanced to the 200-meter individual medley final, setting himself up to win his sixth gold medal. Phelps won his semifinal heat in 1:57.70. Phelps has lived and trained in Ann Arbor in recent years.
-- Phelps advanced to Friday's semifinals in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 50.87 seconds in his preliminary heat.
-- Allison Schmitt, 18, of Canton, has won a share of the U.S. team's bronze medal in the women's 800-meter freestyle relay. She trains with Club Wolverine in Ann Arbor. The U.S. team earned the bronze in 7:46.33.
-- Adam Wheeler won a bronze medal in men's Greco-Roman wrestling in the 96-kilogram class. He trained at Northern Michigan University.
-- Courtney King Dye of Freeland and two teammates finished in fourth place in the team Grand Prix Dressage equestrian event with a score of 67.819.
-- Dye was in seventh place after day two of the individual Grand Prix Dressage event with a score of 70.458. She advances to Saturday's Grand Prix Special.
-- Tayshaun Prince of the Detroit Pistons played in the U.S. men's basketball team's 92-69 victory over Greece. With the win, the U.S. squad clinches a spot in the medal round.
-- Chris Kaman of Wyoming played for the German men's basketball team in its 59-72 loss to Spain.
