DeWitt's Fleet Falls In Women's Amateur Final

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Defending Michigan Women's Amateur golf champ Laura Bavaird has made it back-to-back titles.
Bavaird of Grosse Ile and Western Michigan University has defeated Stephany Fleet in 19 holes today at Walnut Hills Country Club in East Lansing.
Bavaird was 3 up on the front nine, then Fleet was 1 up from the 12th through the 17th hole. Fleet of DeWitt and Eastern Michigan University missed her putt on 18 and the match went to extra holes.
Three of Bavaird's five match play rounds went to 19 holes. She also defeated Flint's Shasta Averyhardt in 19 holes to win last year's title at Egypt Valley.
Bavaird has advanced to the final of the Women's Am three times. She was runner up to Grand Blanc's Mandi McConnell in 2005. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
