DETROIT (AP) -- Red Wings forward Tomas Kopecky had surgery on his left knee and is expected to be able to play at the start of next season.
The team said Tuesday his torn ligament was successfully repaired, but he will need four to six months to recover.
Kopecky was hurt April 3 against Columbus after scoring five goals and making seven assists as a key role player in Detroit.
The top-seeded Red Wings will face the Colorado Avalanche or Calgary Flames later this week in a Western Conference semifinal.
