East Lansing, Mich. - Spartan junior Justin Abdelkader (Muskegon, Mich.) has been named the CCHA Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, March 3.

Abdelkader his first career hat trick – the first for MSU in nearly two years – and added a pair of assists in a home-and-home sweep of Bowling Green last weekend to close the regular season. In the two games, Abdelkader was a +6 and helped the penalty kill go a perfect 10-for-10. Abdelkader shares the team’s longest point scoring streak (six games) with linemate Tim Kennedy, and has four goals and six assists in that span.

The junior’s hat trick was the first for Michigan State since Drew Miller potted three goals on March 12, 2006 in a CCHA quarterfinal game against Alaska at Munn Arena.

This is the first weekly honor for Abdelkader this season, and he is the seventh player overall to be honored with a weekly award from the CCHA.

Michigan State finished third in the CCHA regular-season standings, and has earned a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The Spartans will host a best-of-three quarterfinal series at Munn Ice Arena on March 14-16. Tickets for that series are now available online at www.msuspartans.com or by calling the ticket office at 1-800-GO-STATE.
