DAYTON, Ohio - The Michigan State volleyball team swept Dayton, 3-0, Saturday night at UD's Frericks Center to earn a berth in the NCAA Championship Regional Semifinal. The Spartans, who are now 21-13 on the year, advance to play No. 2 and defending national champion Nebraska on Friday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. in Madison, Wis. The win gives the Spartans their fourth regional semifinal berth in program history, and their first since 2002. Saturday night's game scores were 30-26, 30-16, 30-21. Dayton ends its season with a 33-2 record, and had its 13-match winning streak snapped.
Michigan State hit .333 as a team while holding Dayton to .037 hitting. Ashley Schatzle and Katie Johnson led MSU with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. The Spartan defense was led by Jessica Hohl's nine block assists and Jenilee Rathje's seven total blocks. MSU posted a 16-5 advantage in blocks in the contest.
Setter Lauren O'Reilly had 36 assists and libero Miken Trogdon registered 10 digs.
Dayton was led by Jamie Lee-Richards' 13 kills and Adrienne Green's 11 digs.
The match drew a Frericks Center-record crowd of 2,057.
