DOVER, Del. (AP) -- Courtney Davidson went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final 8.6 seconds to help 19th-ranked Michigan State defeat upset-minded Delaware State 65-62 on Monday night.
Delaware State's Ashlee Burbage took a 3-point shot at the buzzer, but it bounced off the front of the rim.
Kalisha Keane scored 18 points for the Spartans, who also got 15 points each from Allyssa DeHaan and Davidson. Michigan State (5-1) has won its last three games.
Raquel Collier scored 19 points to lead Delaware State (2-3), which played host to a nationally ranked opponent for the first time at Memorial Hall. The Hornets were scrappy on defense, forcing 25 Michigan State turnovers.
Michigan State led 33-30 at halftime, but Delaware State began the second half with a 15-7 run, capped by a Keyhana Wakefield layup that put the Hornets ahead 47-40 with 11:50 remaining.
Michigan State began a steady comeback, taking the lead for good, 55-54, when Keane sank a pair of free throws with 5:01 left.
The Spartans converted 16-of-17 free throws but were outrebounded 38-29 by the smaller Hornets. Keane scored nine points during the Spartans 11-2 run to start the game
