The state high school football finals may be about to be played in the Pontiac Silverdome for the final time. The MHSAA is negotiating with both the Silverdome and Ford Field in Detroit as a future playing site. If the MHSAA signs with the Silverdome again it would only be a one year deal. The Silverdome's last commitment is to serve as a practice location for one team when the Super Bowl comes to Ford Field in January, 2005. After that the facility's future is uncertain. The MHSAA would frankly prefer to sign a long term deal with Ford Field and negotiations are being held. Okemos High School won the class BC state soccer championship in 1984. Twenty years later, the Chiefs could win the state title again in what is now division one. Okemos faces Utica Eisenhower, both teams with just one loss this season at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Troy Athens High School. Central Michigan University figures it can finish with a winning record in Brian Kelly's first season as head coach. CMU is 3-5 after an overtime win against Western Michigan last Saturday in Mount Pleasant. The Chipes are 1 1/2 point favorites to beat Eastern Michigan this Saturday at Ford Field in Detroit. After that, Central closes at Ball State and at home against Buffalo. All three are winnable games and Central theoretically could finish with four straight wins and a 6-5 record.
