BROOKLYN, Mich. (Nov. 15, 2007) — Camping is an experience like none other during a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend at Michigan International Speedway.
Because of its popularity, MIS has added 300 campsites in its Graves Farm Campground which will feature electric hookups and a national park-like setting just to the south of US-12. Construction of these new sites has already begun with the project expected to be completed before the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend in June. The new sites will go on sale to the general public on Saturday, Dec. 15.
“We have always had a great demand for camping here at MIS, so adding 300 new sites with electric hookups only made sense,” track President Roger Curtis said. “I’m personally very excited about the location of these new sites. They are nestled in an area of the Graves Farm Campground that offers many great outdoor features like water, trees and rolling hills. It is a very picturesque spot of our property.”
With nearly 9,000 sites being utilized on MIS property during a NASCAR weekend, camping has become an activity that truly enhances the race experience. Many fans take the opportunity to spend anywhere from three to seven days to camp with family or friends. Many fans have developed friendships with their camping neighbors and look forward to the opportunity to seeing them every year.
Dan Ruehl, an MIS fan from Brighton, Mich., has camped in the Graves Farm Campground since it opened in August of 2005. Ruehl, an air traffic controller at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, and his wife, Mary, agree with most fans that camping is a key part to making a race weekend enjoyable.
“We love camping in the Graves Farm Campground at MIS. Camping makes the race weekend really enjoyable for us,” he said. “MIS does a great job of taking care of its race fans. We are impressed with the speedway and the wonderful things they do for campers. It’s a great way to enjoy a NASCAR weekend.”
The Graves Farm Campground expansion is just one of many capital improvement projects MIS is working on this winter. Additionally, a new scoreboard, improved turn one seating, a permanent shower/restroom building in the Graves Farm Campground and way-finding signage on the MIS property are just a few more of the projects taking place at the speedway.
