EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan State forward Aisha Jefferson will miss this season with a knee injury, Spartan coach Suzy Merchant said Monday.
The 6-foot junior tore a ligament in the No. 17 Spartans' exhibition victory over Lake Superior State on Sunday.
Jefferson averaged 10.4 points and 5.6 rebounds for Michigan State last season. She was considered a leader for the Spartans both on and off the floor.
Michigan State opens its season at home Friday against Indiana-Purdue-Indianapolis.
