DETROIT (AP) -- Jalen Rose is honoring his Fab Five basketball teammates at Michigan with a billboard near where he and former teammate Chris Webber grew up.
Rose said he had Webber, Juwan Howard, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson on his mind when he paid for the billboard, which features five maize jerseys, with the five players' last names and numbers.
"The motivation for that speaks for itself," Rose told the Detroit Free Press for a Sunday story. "Being this (2006-07) is the year of the Fab Five 15th-year anniversary, people nationally are talking about it -- about how we changed college basketball."
The Fab Five went to their first of two straight NCAA championship games in 1992, when the freshmen's style and swagger transcended the basketball court.
Webber's ties to a booster, however, resulted in federal charges against him and NCAA sanctions against the university. Michigan took down the banners Webber helped the Wolverines earn as part of its punishment.
Below the jerseys on the billboard is the word "Timeless" and Rose's "JR 5" logo.
At Michigan, Rose said, "We have no banners and representation ... almost like we didn't go there."
