Waverly already has one restructuring plan in place for Waverly Middle School.

"We're adding 20 more days to the school year and extending school day," said Waverly Schools Superintendent Debra Jones.

As for the rest of the schools, Jones said the district is at a crossroads.

"We're on the cusp of being a great school district and I think by fiscally using our money to our best of our ability, as little as it is, and securing programming to help academic excellence we'll reach that quicker," said Jones.

The district whittled down initially ideas to four that could be used singularly or in some combination for its restructuring: Expanding early childhood education, reconfiguring grade levels, creata freshmen academy and have a full day kindergarten program.

"I'm hopeful that we have a number of community members as well as staff members to come forward who wasy they want to look deeper into this idea so I'm part of the process and part of the solution to help Waverly grow and reinvent," said Jones.

When Waverly Middle School was labeled as one of the state's lowest performing schools, the District snapped a plan in place. Now its using similar strategies for the other schools.

Between now and the end of January, committees will be researching each idea and Jones hopes that can push the district from good to great in no time. The commitee will present its ideas on Januray 24. The board will then take it into consideration, there will be more community forums on the finalized proposal and then in March, the board will vote on a final plan. Jones expects to start the changes at the end of March and students would start noticing a distance in the Fall.
