Tough decisions have been made by the Grand Ledge School Board to make up for money not coming in from the state.
....Close two elementary schools, and eliminate 53 positions, 32 of them teachers.
The other major cut will affect how high school students get to school.
Grand Ledge Superintendent Steve Matthews projects revenue to be down one-and-a-half million dollars this year, and next year could be worse, so busing for high school students is being eliminated.
Because it's a rural district,, Grand Ledge busses cover 125 square miles, resulting in a bus budget of two-point-two million dollars, five hundred thousand of which is spent on getting high schoolers to class.
Of the more than 16-hundred students at Grand Ledge High School,, a full third, some five hundred students take the bus.
But in the 20-10 / 20-11 school year they'll have to find another way to school.
Superintendent Matthews says they have nine months to figure out an efficient way to get kids to high school.
He says there still an outside chance the state will come thru with more funding, and busing could be restored.
